Chris Monk of the Derbyshire Reptile and Amphibian Group visited HGQ on Sunday evening the 24th of April 2022 and he recorded a couple of Great Crested Newts there for the first time ever, within the pond in the big hole. This is a rare and protected species in the UK and another example of the growing importance of Hoe Grange Quarry for wildlife in the County.
